Thank you to the panelists who participated at the Y of Central Maryland’s Building Healthy Communities Breakfast Series this morning.  PK Law was proud to be able to host the event and learn more about the Big Brothers Big Sisters Work-Sponsored Mentoring programs from Big Brothers and Big Sisters and Y representatives as well as a panel of bigs, a little and an elementary school principal whose school has benefited greatly from the programs.  The programs include:

Beyond School Walls is a program where corporate partners host elementary and middle school students twice a month at their place of work, for 90 minutes each visit and high school students one day a month for four-five hours each visit.  Students gain a mentor and and an early introduction into the workplace environment.

Bigs in School is a program that allows mentors from corporate partners to travel to a nearby elementary/middle school or community center to spend an hour every other week with their mentee, participating in interactive and enriching activities over lunch.

Mentor U blends on-line and in-person mentoring to provide evidence-based high school mentoring focused on college and career readiness.  The program matches mentors from corporate partners with high school students and is intended to keep students on track for graduation and success.
