Rochelle’s Special Education Tips

My Dance Card is Filling Up

Scheduling IEP team meetings is an art form, and takes a lot of persistence, particularly during the summer. Make scheduling a priority and do not become sidetracked. First ask for immediate responses from team members as to available dates. If you do not receive a response within 24 hours, send out another request for confirmation. It is possible your email went into spam or got overlooked in the crush of business. Then, contact the parents. Again, ask for an immediate response. If you do not hear back within 24 hours, send out another request for confirmation. If you do not hear back within another 24 hours, send out the Notice of the Meeting. The worst that will happen is that the parents will advise you that the date chosen does not work. But at least you will have evidence of trying to schedule the IEP team meeting.
